REVIEW: Theatre Beyond Broadway reviews PSA: Pelvic Service Announcement at the NYC Fringe

Excerpt from Nicole Jesson’s full review:

“Besides her witty words, Veltman's character work is stellar. You will never be at a loss for which part of her is speaking. Whether working on Maxine gave her strong arms or she never misses arm-day at the gym, I would be remiss if I didn't mention her absolutely perfect cactus arms! But under that strength is a remarkable vulnerability that endears her to all except perhaps her own children. But if your children don't think you're strange, then you're definitely doing something wrong.

I am not surprised when I see the number of awards this production has won. You will walk away thinking about your body in a whole new way.”

INTERVIEW: FUNNY WOMEN Magazine

INTERVIEW: FUNNY WOMEN Magazine

Excerpt: ”What do you hope audiences take away from your show?

I hope everyone leaves the show with tighter abs from laughing a lot. More importantly, I want people to know that leaking anything from any of your nether-regions is not an inevitable part of aging (for women or men) or menopause or post-partum existence or life that you need to just live with: Help is available! There are many treatments for a wide range of pelvic problems, and most of them are non-surgical. If your pelvic floor is reliably and perfectly supportive, you can extrapolate the advice for any problem that is interfering with your quality of life: admit it to yourself and seek help.”

INTERVIEW: On The Moment I Realized My Pelvic Floor Deserved Its Own Show....

It was an utter delight to discuss PSA: Pelvic Service Announcement with A Youngish Perspective, its genesis, whether there’s a line I won’t cross with my candor/candour, and the myth about the pelvic floor the show hopes to banish….

INTERVIEW: Broadway Baby notes "Comedy and candour collide"

I’m grateful to James Macfarlane for interviewing me about why I made the show, whether the advocacy or the comedy came first, and if there’s any line I’m uncomfortable crossing in what I share. Broadway Baby is one of the preeminent publications for those looking for shows to see at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Read the full interview here

The great thing about a pelvic floor health show is that friends send you relevant articles.

Robert, thanks for making me aware of the massively useful intro to all things pelvic floor health for women and men published by The Guardian. I imagine it’s no accident that this piece coincides with the publication of the fabulous, new book by Sara Reardon, FLOORED: A Woman’s Guide to Pelvic Floor Health at Every Age and Stage.

While I delve into my own complexities in PSA: Pelvic Service Announcement, and I happen to fit a typical profile of those with pelvic floor dysfunction (menopausal, middle-aged woman who’s had a coupla vaginal births. Yawn!), there are loads of other ages at which one can have myriad other pelvic floor dysfunctions, including rare ones that are quite serious.

If something in your urinary, bowel, or sexual health has taken a turn for the worse or is negatively affecting your quality of life, do what you can to address the problems ASAP. As the Guardian piece states, “Future-proof your pelvic floor!”

INTERVIEW: CERTAIN AGE Magazine

INTERVIEW: CERTAIN AGE Magazine

Maybe we don’t bloom late. Maybe we bloom at exactly the right time….

I was so grateful for this profile by Wendy Nelson for the online magazine Certain Age in March of 2022!

“Why does an Upper East Side mother of two teens and a successful businesswoman, decide to expose herself in standup?

It begs a larger question: why would any of us abandon everything we’re good at—all the connections we laboriously built, all the expertise we acquired, all the accolades we earned—to try something new?”

INTERVIEW: with BROADWAY WORLD writer Brett Singer

INTERVIEW: with BROADWAY WORLD writer Brett Singer

Excerpt: “How would you describe your show, PSA: Pelvic Service Announcement? First and foremost, PSA: Pelvic Service Announcement is an entertaining comedy. Additionally, most people who attend learn at least one useful thing about pelvic floor health and why it matters to you, no matter your sex or gender. I've been a standup comedian in New York City for about eight years, so I think a lot of people who know me will be surprised to see this fleshed out multimedia extravaganza where I perform a range of characters, original songs, and a pretty raw, ridiculous narrative of my own pelvic floor adventures (told tastefully!).”
